The origin of the world, engine of every action, “exhaustible source of delight” or “cross of enduring dissatisfaction.” Our actions are driven by desire, by a deep longing to fill a void within us; that lingering sense of incompleteness. This feeling of unfulfillment becomes the unrelenting force that drives every desire, whether it is for an object, a person, knowledge or even a connection with the divine. As is often the case, the etymology of words contains ancestral secrets linked to a collective unconscious that unites us and guides our lives by weaving invisible webs that we don’t always have the good fortune to see and recognise. The etymology of “Desire” reveals a profound truth. With the latin prefix “De”, indicating absence or privation, it signifies “the lack of” that which impels all action. At the same time, in “sidus – sideris,” evolving into “sidera” in the plural form, resides the essence of “the stars.” This juxtaposition unveils the essence of the word: “Lack of Stars.” The tension born from this absence becomes the driving force of the human soul, Desire, deeply woven into our essence, shaping our very being.
